Returning Families

Returning Families Camp are an opportunity for our Lionheart families to come together again and build on the knowledge gained and connections formed after attending New Families Camp. This program offers the opportunity for children to check-in with themselves, build on their skills, reconnect with their Lionheart friends and continue the lifelong journey of integrating grief into their life.

Did you know that children experience regrief? Regrief is the idea that as a child grows their understanding of the world and their place in it changes. This will alter how a child understands their grief in relation to their own life. As these new understandings occur, children can feel as though they are experiencing acute grief again - sometimes just as acutely as when it first happened. Often however, children are not aware of this change (unfortunately their bodies do not send them an email clearly outlining this) and as such this can be demonstrated through an increase in anger or emotional outbursts, poor sleep, difficulty concentrating or an increase in tummy aches or headaches.

Given the regularity and unpredictability of regrief we offer Returning Family Camps two to three times per year to meet the needs of as many families as possible.

Returning Family Camps are offered in a one- or two-day format throughout the year in the Perth metro area.

Lionheart families are welcome to attend multiple Returning Families camps regardless of how long it has been since the death of a loved one.

Registrations for our November 2024 camp are now closed.

Our next Returning Families Camps are scheduled for 14-15th June 2025 and 29th November (1-day) 2025.
